Meanwhile, we know all about facebook.
We know that it collects our data and keep feeding it.
We know that Mark Zuckerbergs statement that “Facebook was not originally created to be a company. It was built to accomplish a social mission โ to make the world more open and connected” is, -at least since its launch on the stock market– barely true.
We even know about its employee treatment
How does it come we do not know anything about the current voting on the terms of use?
Until June, 8th at 6pm users can vote on the Facebook Site Governance Vote on rule changes on privacy. The new rules contain amongst other things an expanded list of activities in which user data can be collected by Facebook. They allow facebook to bring in advertisement (carefully chosen by your user data) not only on facebook pages but outside its monopoly.
However, the voiting will only be accredited if 30 % of all facebook user, i.e. 270 million people vote. As facebook is not really promoting the voting process it is highly unlikely to achieve this goal.
If you adore facebook just like motivational speaker Deborah Torres Patel and musician Gianluca Verrengia, go ahead and join their singing!
Otherwise, go and vote!

First thing: I was terribly confused by your title! I was like ‘f-like’ ‘fucking like’, what the heck is that supposed to mean? Is it some sort of abbreviation? Then I scrolled through other blog entries and it hit me when I saw the ‘A like’ post… aaaha I’m stupid after all ๐
Of course ‘F’ like… Facebook.
I think it would have helped me if you put the F in double quotes, maybe you can still change it? ๐
But then of course I had to read the post that made me feel stupid. At first I thought, aaalright another post about Facebook, there’s going to be nothing new. False.
That Facebook wants to change the terms of use is new! And very important for all the users. I think you could have included that Facebook even wants to sell the data that they collect to companies, because that’s an even bigger shock.
I like your introduction of the topic, because you linked it to your blog mates’ posts.
That’s a very smart way of getting your followers to check out other posts from your blog too.
Cheers.

hey stefochka.
Finally I found the time to read one of your posts, and I have to admit you found a really great category to write about. I will definitely read some of your webtechissues fro a to z.
What I recognized when reading some of your posts is the fact that they are all very comprehensive and appealing. Moreover, they are kept rather short and you try to make your posts diverse with opinions and call- to- action. Chapeau!
You link your posts really handy for the readers, so there is always some additional information available.
About this post, this again is something new about facebook. I thought I already know everything, but I was wrong again.
In fact I think this new way of voting could establish a totally new way of decision making. I already voted! Good job ๐

Hey Stephanie,
I think it is a shame what facebook does and concerning the use of the data I really regret that I signed up there some years ago. Yes I know, on the one side it is a nice and easy way to communicate to others, but on the other hand this data issue really annoys me… And the fact that facebook do not really promotes that many people votes makes me think that facebook just do not want to have to change its use of data. And what I also do not like is that we have to log in for vote. Because if we log in they know what each person say in this vote (or at least I think that they will do) and I think this should be an anonymous procedure.
So now I come to your post, I really like your post and the way you included the links and I also like that you add the video. But I would have liked to hear more about your opinion or attitude towards facebook, but it is still a great post !

Hey Stefochka,
thank you for you article that you have opened my eyes for the voting process.I will vote for new terms of use because , like Janastaub, I don’t want someone to have 300 pages with data concerning my life. That is annoying and I cannot delete my Facebook profile because I am using it for free communication.Actually it is not free because we pay with our data. I dislike that Facebook refuses to promote the voting process probably because it has relations with some agencies like FBI , CIA and it shares users data with them.
In you blog post I like that it is short and there are many links. I have clicked on some of them especially on “vote”.
All in all, an incredibly smoothly written and well-structured post.Your argumentation is very logic!
Thank you!

Hi Stefochka,
Thanks for drawing my attention to this important topic! I have seen one of my “facebook-friends” posting a link to vote, but I didn’t know what that was supposed to mean so I forgot about it.
It is great that you make us aware of it!
I find it very questionable why facebook doesn’t advertise for it.
Also I clicked on the link to vote but itโs one thousand pages that you have to read to get informed about the privacy policies and I was too lazy to read it.
Do you have any clue what they want to change exactly?

Hello Rose! As said before, “The new rules contain amongst other things an expanded list of activities in which user data can be collected by Facebook. They allow facebook to bring in advertisement (carefully chosen by your user data) not only on facebook pages but outside its monopoly”, further more, your data will be saved”for as long as necessary to provide services to users and others.”-so always.
Check out Elinor Mills blog, that provides many links, so it is a good starting point to dig deeper!

Stefochka,
like always I enjoyed your straight-to-the-point and slightly ironic style. It’s a great and very current topic and unfortunately I read it one day too late!
It’s a shame that despite all the negative publicity, we still do so little to make Facebook respect our privacy. And you’re right, I hadn’t heard about the vote before I read your post.
Although I’m a fan of short posts, I would have loved to hear a short paragraph of what you think about it. But other than that: Great style, great (but weird) video and thanks for updating me!

Hej Anrofi! Thanks for the comment! Although I did not express my opinion explicitly, I think that as my beginning and ending are rather cynical you can guess my opinion on facebook:) However, although the new rules will be introduced, I am going to keep my profile.Unfortunately I am kind of addicted myself…:(
